Bangkok might be known for its skyscrapers and busy streets, but the city also offers pockets of greenery and nature-filled escapes. From serene gardens to lush parks and peaceful riverside walks, there's plenty of natural beauty to see amidst the urban landscape.

Where can I find the best parks in Bangkok?

Lumphini Park and Chatuchak Park are two of Bangkok's most popular green spaces, ideal for strolls, picnics, and outdoor activities.

Lumphini Park, located near the Silom and Pathum Wan districts, spans over 142 acres and features a large artificial lake where you can rent paddle boats. It's open daily from 4:30 AM to 9 PM, making it good for early morning jogs. Chatuchak Park, adjacent to the massive Chatuchak Weekend Market, offers a quieter atmosphere with walking paths, a butterfly garden, and tennis courts. Both parks are easily accessible via the BTS Skytrain.

Are there any nature reserves near Bangkok?

Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the closest major nature reserve, about a 3-hour drive from Bangkok.

This expansive park covers over 2,000 square kilometers and is home to diverse wildlife, including elephants, gibbons, and hornbills. Visitors can hike along its many trails, with the Haew Suwat Waterfall being a popular stop. Guided tours from Bangkok often include round-trip transport, making it a convenient day trip. For a more immersive experience, consider staying overnight in nearby Pak Chong.

What are some scenic walks in Bangkok?

The Bangkok Green Lung and Bang Krachao are well-known for their scenic bicycle paths and elevated walkways.

Bang Krachao, often referred to as the "Green Lung" of Bangkok, is a lush, green peninsula along the Chao Phraya River. Accessible via a short boat ride from Klong Toey, the area is ideal for cycling or walking through its elevated pathways that wind through mangrove forests and local communities. Bicycles can be rented cheaply upon arrival. Visit on weekends to see the Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market for local snacks and products.

For a tranquil escape, head to the Princess Mother Memorial Park in the Khlong San area. This hidden oasis features beautifully landscaped gardens and a museum dedicated to the mother of King Rama IX. Admission is free.
